let the good times roll

i’ve been like the sleeping buddha these past few days, and the rest has really paid off. today, my white counts (3.2) showed that i have an immune system once more–so i’m officially out of the “nadir”. its been a sharp rise in my counts (on monday, they were still just at 1.1). typically, it takes weeks to jump just one point–i did it in two days. so if you’re ever low on neutrophils, you know what to do: sleep…and oh yeah, inject yourself with a drug that turns your bones into neutrophil factories everyday.

since i’m out of the “nadir”, my nurse practitioner told me that i can stop taking the antibiotics and neupogen (goodbye side effects). my counts will continue to fluctuate after i stop taking the juice, and i’ll still need the occasional platelet/blood transfusion–but things are quite bullish. so today marks the beginning of the “good days”.

for those of you keeping score: my platelets were at 9 today (i got a transfusion), and my red counts were around 28.

  1. Next time you should try Buddha sleep for 14 hours! You’ll either have a miraculous recovery or go clinically insane. Should be fun either way. ;)

  2. very cool! is it weird to suggest you put all your stats into an excel sheet and graph this stuff out? it might be an interesting retrospective look at the progress you’ve made so far.

  3. imran- i think the miraculous recovery part only comes after the going clinically insane part :)

    brian- i’ve had my nurses print out all of my blood reports just for that purpose. would you expect anything less from someone who kept track of his car’s MPG?
