My Lumps, My Lumps…
*Note: this entry is pretty graphic–i mean just look at the picture above!*
tomorrow i’m scheduled to see a dermatologist to remove this cyst on the back of my left leg. yeah, i know, its quite disgusting! its been there for a few years now, and though i’ve been assured by my oncologist that its probably benign, i’m very glad to get this thing removed before it decides to grow hair, get a job, and find a mrs cyst.
my doctors are rushing to have the procedure done tomorrow because i have my next round of chemo on thursday. i just hope the procedure is minimally invasive because that will lower my risk for infection. it might be a bad idea to start cutting up body parts days before my immune system will get trashed (by chemo), but if we miss our chance now, then we’ll have to wait for my platelets to return to a safe level again, which could take over a month after the chemo. the super-cautious would perhaps wait until all of the chemo is done, and i am anticipating that some of you, who are close to me, would want me to take this safer route. but one good reason to do it now, i suppose is: if it is cancerous (which we do not know at this point), then we could remove 99.99999% of it surgically, and have a good chance of killing off the rest with the chemo that will be flowing through my body anyway. IF we wait until after the chemo is done, then we might miss an opportunity to kill this thing–whatever it is once and for all. And there is some evidence that this might be cancerous: after my induction round, i noticed that this pretty little thing shrunk down a bit! peculiar indeed!
anyway, i’m a bit nervous about tomorrow’s procedure–not necessarily because of what might happen tomorrow, but because of what might happen days later (i.e. infection). lets just pray that the wound will heal days before my immune system tanks.
i’ll post some more pictures of my leg after surgery tomorrow–yummy!

Wow I didn’t know you were with child Len. HAHAHA! On a more serious note, I hope all goes well tomorrow and the cyst is removed without any complications either short-term or long. I agree with your choice to do it know instead of later…no need to have any more surprises after your treatments are finished. With any luck it will be benign and you’ll have a cool scar.
Oh and welcome to the blogosphere! ^_^
